WECAIR and South Africa-based Alt Academy have partnered on a pilot training pathway spanning the United States, Europe and Africa and leading to an EASA professional pilot licence.

A new international pathway will expose future airline pilots to three distinct aviation environments in the United States, Europe and Africa, while leading to an EASA professional pilot licence.

WECAIR International Pilot Training School and South Africa-based Alt Academy have signed a strategic partnership agreement to develop a pioneering international pilot training programme spanning three continents.

The partnership forms part of a unique training model in which student pilots progress through carefully coordinated phases in the United States, Europe and Africa. Throughout their journey, cadets will experience different airspaces, climates, terrains, operating cultures and levels of air traffic complexity, all within one coherent training pathway leading to an EASA professional pilot licence.

The Flyfirst programme has been designed to respond to one of the aviation industry’s most pressing challenges: not only the global shortage of pilots, but also the difficulty airlines face in recruiting pilots who are truly prepared for international airline operations.

The three-continent model will help cadets develop adaptability, operational awareness, resilience and cultural intelligence – qualities that are becoming increasingly important in modern airline operations. Rather than learning in a single environment, students will progressively build their skills across highly diverse aviation settings.

In the United States, cadets will gain experience in dynamic, complex airspace. In Europe, they will complete key theoretical and advanced professional training phases in accordance with EASA requirements. In South Africa, they will benefit from varied terrain, favourable flying conditions and Alt Academy’s advanced training and simulator capabilities.

The programme can be adapted to meet the needs of individual students, airline-sponsored cadets and airline recruitment or development programmes. This flexibility enables students to pursue their ambitions independently while allowing airline partners to align training with their operational standards, fleet requirements and future workforce needs.
