Training Package Description

At ALT Academy Flight Centre, PPL training is conducted in a single-engine airplane, beginning with general handling until a strong level of proficiency is achieved. Great emphasis is placed on mastering the fundamentals of aircraft control and pilot scanning during this stage to ensure a solid foundation.

The next stage introduces airfield circuit practice, where students become familiar with airfield operations and develop skills in both normal and maximum performance take-offs and landings. This stage builds up to a major milestone — the first solo flight.

Following this, training progresses into the cross-country phase, which covers:

• Flight planning
• Visual and radio navigation
• Communication with Air Traffic Control
• Practice diversions and emergency procedures
• Operations at commercial airports

This phase culminates in a solo cross-country flight of at least 270 km (150 NM) between three different airfields.

The final section of training prepares candidates for the PPL License Skills Test. All maneuvers are revised, and the candidate’s proficiency is raised to the level required for the official check flight. Throughout the course, students also complete their theory requirements, which include nine SACAA ground school examinations and a Radio Telephony (RT) verbal test.

Training Structure & Duration

If training takes place in a Cessna 172, the programme will comprise at least:

• 35 hours of dual instruction
• 10 hours of supervised solo flight
• (Note: The skill test itself is not included in the above solo hours.)

The course typically takes 6–8 weeks to complete and provides the entry requirements for CPL/IR training, offering an excellent foundation for advanced flight training.
